Yet another Pinay by the name of Ramiele Malubay is on American Idol 7 Top 24 whilst this may not come as surprise to all because Filipinos by nature are good singer (balladeers or karaoke masters) and its best example is Renaldo Lapuz who auditioned but was disqualified due to age, weird costume and song. Ramiele wasn’t seen much during the grueling Hollywood week nevertheless she beat at least 140 select or from thousandths A.I.7 wannabees. We can add another list to Sway Penala, AJ Tabaldo, Camille Velasco and Jasmine Trias. Let’s see how far she goes in the season admired to be the most talented batch by far.

And speaking of television for a 40-year old immature (as my wife would utter) these are my current favorite TV series (both anime and western style) in the tube:

Avatar: The Last Airbender
The Batman
Ben 10
– Monster Allergy

Of the Japanese made films watched I’m pretty much impressed with Final Fantasy VII Advent Children, Masamune Shirow Ghost in the Shell series and Appleseed. I’ve been waiting for (what else, bootleg copy!) Appleseed sequel Ex Machina.

appleseed exmachina

Hollywood animation are really of different breed by having the resources needed in terms of R&D, technology and pool of highly skilled individuals that’ll lead me agonizing over responsibility pass to me for the short-film “Lake Happiness” because we never had sufficient research nor the adequate training (in BG/DIP) not to mention the 8-5 everyday office load.

Growing up with Spiderman, The Herculoids, Moby Dick, Mighty Mightor and Spyshadow, or sitting on supermarket sidewalk for a 25 cents comics rent during the 70s has stucked well and get me to appreciate how important character design but always next to story.

Proud of Pinoy artists, designers and animators who made it big in Hollywood, the likes of Armand Serrano, Nelson Bohol, Macky Pamintuan, Erwin Madrid, and Ronnie del Carmen also those who made it in the American comics like Whilce Portacio, Lan Medina, or the new breed of artists at deviantart like El Pinoy (Chester Ocampo) or Markovah (Mark Taduran) just to mention few.

In the heap of politics — Senators Antonio Trillanes, Gringo Honasan, Joker Arroyo, Chiz Escudero, Jamby Madrigal, Congressman Luis Villafuerte and Edcel Lagman, controversial Ower Andal, whistleblower Jun Lozada, lawyer Sal Panelo, PGMA AlterEgo Manny Gaite, adopted son Congressman Dato Arroyo Just in from that Albay Governor Joey Salceda and James Calisin are rehearsing to dance the ChaCha.

The famous ORAGON is living up to its demeaning definition … that we have a boner for stirring up controversy and we can never the force we’ve hoped for because we’re so divided and if you add our well-known turncoats (you know who) the issue/s gets more muddled. My idol Senator Joker whose battle-cry “pag bad ka, lagot ka” seemed to have lost it when he joined the palace much like that of Senator Rene Saguisag when he joined President Erap.

Reading Jun Lozada’s transcript of the charred NBN-ZTE deal shows that corruption here is much like global warming where it probably reached the point of no return, we know too much, it’s slowly killing us and yet we don’t want act on the situation at hand. Garbage in, garbage out is what we do now, curses here and there, media blitz and after a few sleep and rest … then what? Nothing happened. Senate conducts probe and hearings, then what? Nothing really happens.

We, the people, have not changed especially during elections, JDV sudden attack of conscience is a quintessential picture of politicos or mafiosos we have, when about to be thrown overboard he started throwing mud to his bosses, reciting litany on national TV, their dirty secrets much like a cornered dog, but what did he do during the time these corrupt acts were about to be committed? Nothing really because he got his share of loot during the 5-term speaker ship has amassed enough and may well be in silencio if everything goes as planned.

Who to trust now is like waiting for the messiah, our tenet for leader is choose the lesser evil, but how less is the devil? Do we have a criterion for him? Just like Jun Lozada’s question to Secretary Neri on “what moderating greed means”. If ever his statements are true, you’ll see the devil in meek (acting) Chairman Ben Abalos or in FG Mike Arroyo. Sisteng bulok is what we are all in, and believe me we adjust well – it’s innate in us. We’re the greatest survivor on the planet! See how some nag of their suffering and yet are they doing constructive ways to ease the pain? Nothing ever happens.

Given the scenario PGMA is ousted by PeoplesRev (again) she’ll probably get an asylum somewhere or few years of house arrest (like Erap). Then what? We brainfart (again) like Dori (in Finding Nemo) and she still end up filthy rich with the loot (again). We keep running on circles. Do we ever get tired? Or shit just happens.

I will keep asking these on and on. Can we really change? Can we all undo the crookedness running in our veins?
